Preparing Houston Properties for the 2026 World Cup: A Commercial Pressure Washing Guide

World Cup 2026 Is Coming to Houston - Is Your Property Ready to Be Seen by the World?

So many times I cover the importance of liability and why it is important to keep your property and equipment cleaned, to avoid fines.

Because the World Cup will be hosted in Houston this year, it won’t just be important to prevent liability on your property.  This year will be extremely important for our local hotels and restaurants to show off their brand to the entire world.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity since the likelihood of the World Cup being in Houston again in our lifetime is next to nonexistent.  There will be over 500,000 visitors from out of town and out of the USA during this event.  If you ever wanted your brand to be seen positively by other countries - this is your chance.  So I am going to cover a lot of things as far as what pressure washing can do to improve the appearance of your property to give that nice clean impression on visitors (and for our locals it is still nice to see a building not covered in mold after the event ends).

  1. Awnings

Awnings are commonly overlooked by facilities and they are many times the first thing your visitors see when they see your establishment.  They frequently get dirty and covered in mold.  We recommend having these soft washed, they don’t always have to be replaced unless they are stained from extensive neglect.  More often than not washing these will make them look new.

  1. Dumpster Pads

Dumpster pads may be in the back of your facility, but they are something that can turn off a customer faster than even your restrooms.  Initially they need to be cleaned because it's a sanitation issue.  But aside from that it doesn’t represent your brand well when you see a trail of grease staining the concrete from the dumpster pad trailing to the street.  We recommend whoever you use to clean this have access to hot water, it will make them come out cleaner and many times without needing to use soap.  The other thing to consider is how branding works.  You have five sensory brands.  Sight, Sound, Smell, Touch and Taste.  So if your restaurant has a delicious dish, great music and comfortable chairs you have covered 3 areas of sensory branding.  But if the place looks dirty and has a bad smell it doesn’t matter how good those Fajitas are, people are going to talk about how it smelt in the parking lot.  More often than not the smell comes from your dumpster pad.  It is important to keep this area cleaned and maintained to protect the smell sensory brand for your business.  If your bathrooms are clean and you pride your business on it, then the dumpster pad should reflect the same image to create a consistent brand of cleanliness.

  1. Sidewalks

This is the area that people spend the most time on the outside of a property.  They take smoke breaks, phone breaks and it is the first area people walk through when they enter your business.  It is also the last thing they walk through when they leave your business.  It is your first and last impression.  I have covered in a previous blog how the Bubonic Plague was eradicated by cleaning the streets and sidewalks to prevent the spread of infection.  So we already understand the health aspect of this.  But if you are a highly rated hotel and your valet parking area is covered with gum, spilt coffee and black mold you are not creating the image you want your customers to see.  This is just as important as the signage you use on your company, you just don’t consider facilities maintenance marketing, until it becomes a problem with negative reviews on the appearance.  We believe fully that it is important to be proactive in maintaining an image than being reactive and waiting for a customer (or corporate) to complain about what the area looks like.  Things to look for on sidewalks when deciding if it needs to be cleaned is mold, grease, rust, calcium and gum.  Once the work is complete and you get something removed like rust, it is important to find out what caused it.  Many places have an irrigation system that will release small amounts of iron and it will gradually stain your concrete with rust stains that can’t be simply removed by power washing and requires a restoration process.

  1. Windows

Windows are probably the first thing a company considers cleaning because they are the most noticeable thing when they are dirty.  These are a luxury item that we consider important for visual marketing.  Having streak and stain free windows gives a “clarity and transparency brand”.

  1. Building

The building is generally the most complicated thing to wash on a property because rarely buildings are exactly the same.  Consider access points and where you would need to restrict foot traffic when having a company come to clean the exterior of the building.  It is also important to know that if your exterior is made of efis you should NOT have a company come in with the intention of “power washing” the building, it will badly damage the building.  You need to specify the company will “soft wash” the building.  A company can soft wash using a pressure washer if they have the right tools, some have a dedicated soft wash system that doesn’t even have a high pressure option.  The most economic cleaning agent for cleaning buildings is bleach.  It is important to know there will be an odor of bleach until it rains when the work is done, if this is an issue request the company to use an odor masking agent to cover the building in (this will raise the cost of the work minimally, but it is effective to prevent the exterior of your building smelling like a laundromat for 5 days).

  1. Parking Lot

Parking lots many times only are cleaned to prep for striping, and sometimes are only power washed WHERE the restriping will be done.  Where this is a more cost effective way to have striping done, it doesn’t create the best image for a parking lot.  Consider your clientele and how you want to brand them.  If you are branding a cost effective product or service and want to show that, then cleaning only the striping is actually appropriate.  If your clientele has a larger budget and expects the best experience (like a 4 or 5 star hotel) it may make them wonder how much effort will be put into the experience when they see work only halfway done before they even enter the hotel or resort.  These are small things to some people, but people who are familiar with commercial properties will notice these things.  It may never lead to a complaint, but it will brand in a direction you may have not intended it to.  When you get your parking lot or parking garage cleaned you need to specify if you want the gum removed, that can substantially increase the cost if you have a large amount of gum (we see the most gum outside of gyms).  Cleaning up gum can sometimes take longer than to power wash the entire parking lot depending on how much is discarded.  Providing easy access trash cans can prevent excessive gum being spit on the concrete.

These are the most common items and issues we see when coming across commercial properties and will cover the majority of the line items you will need a quote on when getting your facility power washed in Houston.  I am sure this covers many other areas of the USA but since we mainly pressure wash in the Houston metro we are covering what we have seen from the 12 years we have been pressure washing Houston.

Lets get ready to show the world how clean Houston is and make that good first impression.  The World Cup is just one isolated event of more to come in the future of our largely international city.  Because half of my family is from Argentina, I am fully aware of how big of a deal the World Cup is and it will be exciting to see what kind of business this brings to our city!

I would like to express that I have some experience with working with a pressure washer. And I enjoy with myself as well as with groups.
